  Breed: Goldendoodle

  Weight: 50 lbs

  Age: 2 years old

  Gender: Female

Our “donut dogs” began with Fritter, who died in 2020 (but whose fur around our home will live on forever). Jelly, our next pup, joined us in 2015 and we won the lottery with this little guy—even as a puppy he was easy. He’s cute and he knows it and can be a bit aloof but he’s quiet, well-behaved, and very sweet with young children. Maple came to us in 2021 and was a wild ride for awhile (not an easy puppy) but—thankfully—she’s now mellowing. Star of the dog park. She can be shy with people at first, but she loves to play with all dogs, especially small dogs.

Dog Boarding Options: Exploring The Best Choices

  • Pros: Established facilities, trained staff, structured routines.
  • Cons: Limited personalized attention, potential stress from an unfamiliar environment.

In-Home Boarding

Dog-Sitting Communities

Do Dogs Enjoy Dog Boarding?

The enjoyment dogs experience during dog boarding can vary based on their individual temperament, the boarding environment, and their previous experiences. Some dogs may find the experience enjoyable, while others might feel stressed or anxious in an unfamiliar setting. Here are a few factors to consider:

Social Dogs

Dogs that are sociable and enjoy the company of other dogs and humans might thrive in a boarding environment where they can engage in play and receive attention.

Routine And Comfort

Dogs that thrive on routine and familiar surroundings may experience some level of discomfort in a new environment, especially if their daily habits are disrupted.

Separation Anxiety

Dogs prone to separation anxiety might find being away from their owners and their familiar home stressful, even in a boarding facility.

Familiar Scents

Dogs have a strong sense of smell, and the scent of other dogs and animals in a boarding facility might be intriguing or overwhelming to them.

Are Dogs Tired After Boarding?

After a period of boarding, it's not uncommon for dogs to exhibit signs of tiredness. The experience of staying in a new environment, engaging in activities, and interacting with other dogs can be stimulating and energy-consuming. Just like humans can feel tired after a day of adventure, dogs may also need rest to recuperate. However, the level of tiredness can vary based on factors such as the dog's age, temperament, and the activities they participated in during their boarding stay. It's important to allow your dog to unwind and provide them with a comfortable and familiar space to relax upon returning home.

How Do I Comfort My Dog After Boarding?

Help your dog transition smoothly from boarding back to home with these tips:

Reassuring Routine

Get back to your regular daily routine to provide a sense of stability.

Quiet Time

Allow your dog some quiet and cozy time to relax after the excitement of boarding.

Affection And Attention

Shower your dog with extra love, cuddles, and attention to make them feel secure.

Favorite Toys

Offer their favorite toys for comfort and entertainment.

Healthy Treats

Reward them with healthy treats for positive associations with coming home.

Sharing The Load: Why The Dog Community Thrives

The foundation of mutual support among dog owners stems from a shared recognition of the difficulties associated with sourcing reliable care, creating a culture rooted in reciprocal assistance. This approach proves to be not only economically advantageous but also cost-effective, as the shared responsibilities obviate the necessity for expensive boarding facilities, rendering pet care more accessible. Within this framework, the shared values of a deep affection for dogs and an unwavering commitment to personalized care serve as unifying threads, fostering robust connections among members of the community.

A Bark In The Park: The Importance Of Trustworthy Care

When you entrust your dog to trusted individuals within the community, you experience peace of mind, minimizing worries and anxieties throughout your absence. These fellow dog owners are adept at recognizing the distinctive requirements and preferences of each dog, guaranteeing a stay that is both comfortable and tailored to your pet. Additionally, the familiarity of the home environment in which your dog stays contributes to a reduction in stress levels, ultimately promoting their overall well-being.

Nurturing Bonds: The Power Of Canine Companionship

Within the dog community, tending to one another's canine companions not only nurtures authentic friendships among its members but also generates a sense of camaraderie.
